Camptown RacesPerformance Notes:Camptown Races is a tableau. Each section represents a different character that might be found at a race track. Rather than use tempo markings, I decided to use what I call 'feel markings'. The exact tempo doesn't really matter, as long as it 'feels' right to you. For example, the introduction is marked Majestic. Whatever tempo makes that section feel the most majestic to you is the right tempo. The section beginning at measure 128 will require some explanation. The overall goal is to create the mass of sound that might be heard in a crowded public place like a racetrack. There is no specifically 'right' or 'wrong' way to play each part. The musicians are encouraged to be as creative as possible. Also, 10 seconds for each measure is just a guideline, not an exact figure.
